Abu Abraham Mathew is a dedicated social sector leader from Central Travancore with over seven years of experience in project management and crisis response. Starting as a volunteer during the floods and pandemic, he has evolved into a strategic collaborator with state governments and NGOs.
With a passion to act locally on making events sustainable, as an NYCC Climate Champion from Kerala, he successfully transformed the Mallappally Sub-District School Arts Festival into a landmark Green Kalolsav integrating sustainability into a large-scale cultural event with over 3,000 students and 10,000 community members. By introducing eco-friendly decorations, zero-waste dining, sustainable ID cards, and effective waste management systems, the festival set a new standard for green event practices and inspired grassroots environmental action. He also advanced climate action through youth engagement, conducting sustainability training for over 350 students, establishing biopods in schools for organic waste management, and organizing clean-up drives, awareness campaigns, and upcycling workshops.
Abu was recently selected to represent NYCC as a Climate Champion at the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) in Nairobi, Kenya, where he engaged with global leaders and amplified grassroots perspectives on climate action.
With his youth-led initiative: Ignus Foundation – he is continuing his work in environmental advocacy and community-focused solutioning. His grassroots work demonstrates a unique ability to bridge the gap between environmental policy and practical, community-led climate action.
