Lekhashri Bora

Lekhashri Bora is a dedicated environmental leader and a Biology teacher working in rural Assam, who also served as a Chief Minister’s Climate Resilient Village Fellow. Through both her classsoom and community work, she addresses the region’s pressing ecological challenges.

During her time as an NYCC Climate Champion from Assam, she conducted in-depth household surveys and focus group discussions in Nabill Village, and identified critical issues such as soil erosion and drought. Building on this, Lekhashri has championed organic innovations like vermicomposting and biofertilizers to restore declining soil fertility, particularly impacted by plastic waste.

She has led community workshops and co-organized a 4-day vocational training on organic farming and vermicompost enrichment, equipping youth and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with practical, sustainable skills. As a result, over 50 youth and children produced vermicompost across nearby regions, with the community generating 170+ kg so far through youth-led efforts.

By combining her role as an educator with grassroots action, Lekhashri effectively bridges scientific knowledge and community practice, connecting rural families to sustainable farming methods, irrigation awareness, and long-term resource management.
