Rakesh Ch Saha

Rakesh Chandra Saha is a Zoologist and PhD student translating scientific research into community-led conservation efforts in Meghalaya. Drawing from his academic background at Mizoram University, he focuses on protecting endangered species while fostering environmental stewardship among youth in the Garo Hills.

Through the Garo Hills Climate Warriors initiative during his stint as an NYCC Climate Champion from Meghalaya, Rakesh mobilized over 120 students, teachers, and media personnel to advance climate literacy and local action. His work combines education with hands-on engagement, making sustainability a part of everyday life.

He has led large-scale cleanliness drives removing over 1,000 kilograms of waste and introduced initiatives like eco-friendly sports weeks in schools. By creating innovative incentives such as the “Cleanest House Award,” Rakesh is encouraging communities to take ownership of their environment and actively participate in biodiversity conservation.
