Chandrapur , Maharashtra
Ram Chaudhary is a social worker and researcher working with Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in Maharashtra’s Naxal-affected regions. Over the past seven years, he has led grassroots efforts with Jagrut Organisation in Chandrapur to implement the PESA and Forest Rights Acts, mobilizing over 50 Gram Sabhas to help Kolam and Madiya communities reclaim their land and resource rights.
A pioneer in sustainable rural development, Ram transformed his village, Ghatkul, into a model smart village by installing 267 sanitation units in just two years. His work reflects a strong focus on linking infrastructure with dignity, health, and long-term resilience.
Through his engagement with NYCC, Ram has addressed the intersection of water scarcity and migration in the Jiwati block by mobilizing and mentoring 150+ tribal youth. His campaigns across more than 10 Gram Sabhas promote community-led forest management, ensuring that environmental conservation directly strengthens livelihoods, local governance, and socio-economic security.
