Vaibhavi Vishwas Naik is an Assistant Professor of Zoology and Environmental Studies, with a research focus on Golden Jackals in Goa. She has contributed to major conservation efforts like the All-India Tiger Estimation and the People’s Biodiversity Register, bridging academic research with on-ground policy and practice. A strong advocate for citizen science, she plays a key role in initiatives like the Goa Bird Atlas and the City Nature Challenge.
Through her grassroots work as an NYCC Climate Champion from Goa, Vaibhavi has engaged over 400 young people through initiatives such as Aamchi Pasay nature walks and Golden Jackal (Kolo) trails, encouraging biodiversity documentation using tools like iNaturalist. Her efforts combine hands-on learning, like tidepooling and bioblitzes—with awareness on waste management, promoting composting and reduced plastic use.
By mobilizing communities through events like the Goa Bird Festival and Intertidal Bioblitz, Vaibhavi integrates storytelling, science, and digital tools to inspire environmental stewardship. Her work is building a growing network of young, informed citizens committed to protecting Goa’s fragile coastal and terrestrial ecosystems.
