Bharti Kumari Thakur

Bharti Thakur is a climate practitioner from Bihar who leverages her Sociology background to drive behavioral change and rural resilience. She has previously worked with organizations like Project Potential, where she engaged hundreds of youth across Biha, wherein she focused on empowering young people through career guidance, life skills training, and mentorship, while building strong youth leadership ecosystems through local clubs and regular learning spaces.

Through her NYCC initiative, Nadi Mitra Abhiyan, Bharti advanced youth-led river conservation by integrating climate action into everyday cultural and religious practices. She mobilized 150 youth and engaged over 320 community members through nukkad nataks, ghat clean-ups, and awareness on sanitation, plastic pollution, and awareness on phytoremediation - translating climate challenges into locally relevant, actionable change.

Currently, she is a System Practitioner with the Center for System Practice Fellowship at SELCO Foundation, where she is continuing her work on river restoration in Bihar. Building on her grassroots experience, she is deepening systems thinking approaches to strengthen long-term, community-driven solutions for environmental resilience.
