Lalsang zuali

Lalsang Zuali, a PhD scholar in Biotechnology at Mizoram University, works at the intersection of scientific research and grassroots sustainability. Rooted in her cultural identity, her work focuses on conserving indigenous medicinal plants while exploring their potential for clean, plant-based bio-oil as an alternative energy source.

As an NYCC Climate Champion, she led *EcoRoots Mizoram*, an initiative addressing the erosion of traditional ecological knowledge. Engaging over 280 youth, elders, and students, she facilitated climate literacy dialogues, field visits, and interactions with herbal practitioners, integrating science with community wisdom. Her work was strengthened through collaborations with the Mizoram State Biodiversity Board, State Medicinal Plants Board, and academic institutions, building a strong framework for biodiversity conservation.

Through her efforts, Lalsang positions youth as custodians of ecological heritage while advancing climate-resilient practices. She also represented Mizoram University as part of a 10-member delegation at the Asia-Pacific Youth Exchange 2026 in South Korea, amplifying her research and community-led approach on an international platform.
