Priya Bharti

Priya Bharti, an Environmental scientist, Biodiversity caricature artist, and former Research Associate at Goa University, combines scientific expertise with creative outreach to advance biodiversity conservation and climate resilience. With experience across biodiversity conservation, wetlands, vulnerable habitats, and Environment education, she has contributed to the Goa State Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan and while working with Goa Stare Biodiversity Board, Goa State Wetland Authority and Climate Change Cell.

Priya led the “Kharfuti Ambassadors” initiative as an NYCC Climate Champion from Goa, She conducted field surveys understanding the community needs and conflicting understanding about mangrove ecosystems among the locals through grassroots activities like mangrove trails, workshops, treasure hunts and community sessions focused on youth. She trained five young kharfuti ambassadors to independently lead conservation efforts, while collaborating with institutions such as the Goa State Climate Change Cell, CEE, WWF, Act for Goa, Goa Bird Conservation Network and local schools and colleges. By blending biodiversity education, observation, art, and community engagement, her work strengthened awareness and action around mangrove ecosystems.

She now works as a Biodiversity Specialist with UNDP, continuing to drive conservation efforts through policy, community engagement, and sustainable ecosystem management.
