Shriram Singh, a Post-graduate student in Development Studies from IIT Guwahati, is a committed climate practitioner working at the intersection of disaster resilience and environmental justice. His on-ground experience in flood-prone regions of Assam has shaped his deep understanding of the human and ecological impacts of recurring floods. Collaborating with institutions like NERIWALM, local NGOs, and vulnerable communities, Shriram focuses on co-creating youth-led solutions that combine local knowledge with practical climate action.
During the NYCC Climate Champions Fellowship, he led the initiative Building Resilience Against Consequent Floods in Assam, mobilising youth in Lakhimpur district and strengthening youth preparedness through training on early warning systems, evacuation planning, emergency communication, and first-response actions. A key aspect of his approach was integrating indigenous practices such as traditional boat-making and bamboo-based embankments to enhance flood resilience.
By also incorporating health, sanitation, and hygiene awareness to prevent post-flood risks, Shriram’s initiative translated climate awareness into tangible, community-driven action. He continues his work as a State Lead for Assam under the Youth Climate Impact Community.
