Tanupriya Joshi is a socio-legal advocate and practicing lawyer at the Uttarakhand High Court, working at the intersection of ecology, governance, and social justice in the Kumaon region. Her journey began with representing over 100 Van Gujjar families facing eviction, where she helped secure agricultural rights for marginalized and indigenous communities. She continually works closely with Van Panchayats, strengthening community-led governance and protection of natural resources.
Tanupriya worked on a community-driven initiative under her NYCC Project in Uttarakhand, focused on strengthening Van Panchayat governance, youth leadership, and sustainable natural resource management in forest-dependent villages. Through workshops, consultations, and field engagement, she brought together Van Panchayat leaders from 7 districts, women’s groups, and youth to strengthen understanding of forest laws, water management, and climate-resilient livelihoods like eco-tourism.
She continues her work as an advocate, advancing community rights and enabling locally driven, just, and sustainable climate solutions in the Himalayan region.
