Akash Gamit

Akash is an indigenous young person from the Bhil community, belonging to the Tapi region of South Gujarat. For the past 2 years he has been engaging with young people through ‘natural dialogue’ to find solutions to local problems.  He has been a fellow at ‘Disom: The Leadership School’ and while working in-depth with communities, he realised that the best way to save the planet is to adopt tribal lifestyles and values. Driven by the challenges he sees in his community, he is committed to finding solutions that improve people's lives while protecting the environment. He believes that many of the answers to today's climate challenges lie in indigenous ways of living, knowledge that has sustained communities for generations but is now at risk of being forgotten.

With his NYCC Project, Akash wants to bring the indigenous lens to everyday life and educate young people about tribal ways of living and creating balance with nature. Through a ‘living library’ of traditional knowledge, he hopes to transfer indigenous and elder knowledge to the youth and primary school children to understand the importance of forests.
