Akmal Ali P M

Akmal Ali is a sustainability professional and researcher with a background in Economics and a Master's in Sustainability Science. He currently serves as Project Manager – Corporate Social Responsibility at Thanal Trust, where he leads corporate partnerships, resource mobilization, and community-based sustainability initiatives, especially for coastal pollution projects. His experience spans climate action, circular economy, environmental policy, research, and stakeholder engagement through roles with the Forest Research Institute, Centre for Public Policy Research, and Project Urvi. Akmal has authored publications on urban forestry, climate resilience, and sustainable development, and has led projects focused on marine plastic pollution, community development, and climate adaptation. Passionate about creating practical environmental solutions, he works at the intersection of research, policy, and grassroots action to accelerate sustainable development and inspire collective climate action. Akmal is also a Local Pathways Fellow (UN SDSN-Youth) and has published research on climate change and cardamom farming.

With his NYCC Project, Carbon Credits for Cardamom: Feasibility Initiative for Smallholder Farmers, Idukki, he is addressing how cardamom farmers in Idukki are losing income due to climate change. Akmal aims to develop a pilot initiative exploring the feasibility of integrating carbon credits into smallholder cardamom plantations, helping farmers adopt climate-smart practices and access results-based climate finance.
