Arpita Chakraborty

An independent researcher and filmmaker, Arpita works at the intersection of gender equality, climate resilience, and sustainable rural communities, particularly through women-led grassroots initiatives in Upper Assam. With a background in storytelling as a Green Hub Fellow and experience in Gender Studies and interdisciplinary research, she explores the relationship between culture, ecology, and women's labour. Her work focuses on folk arts, marginalized communities, and climate change, using the mediums of storytelling, film, and education to advance inclusive, sustainable, and binary-free perspectives.

In her NYCC project, Intergenerational Learning Spaces: Participatory Climate Documentation & Women's Ecological Knowledge, Arpita aims to address how climate change and recurrent flooding disrupt women's traditional ecological knowledge. She will document indigenous knowledge and explore women-led sustainable livelihood models around Eri silk through the conservation of alternative host plants affected by floods in Upper Assam.
