Carmel Fedrick Malngiang

Carmel is a Climate & Environment, Human Rights, and Social Activist from Wahkaliar, Sohra, Meghalaya. As a founding member of the Clean Sohra Campaign and President of the Khasi Students' Union, Wahkaliar Unit, he has organized numerous environmental workshops for youth and secured government grants for cleanliness drives and climate sensitization across 20+ villages. As an environmental and climate activist, he actively engages with different NGOs and local administration to build a safe, clean, and green Sohra through water and river conservation, waste management, and sustainable tourism that safeguards Meghalaya’s fragile ecosystem. He believes real change comes from collective action that turns awareness into grassroots impact

In his NYCC Project, Sohra Climate Campaign & Action: Reviving Lost Rainfall & Forest, Carmel aims to address plastic pollution and poor waste management in the town of Sohra. He will train youth, conduct cleaning drives, work with Village Councils to ban single-use plastics, and launch the "Clean Rivers, Safe Sohra" advocacy campaign, and work towards ensuring sustainable and responsible tourism.
