Pousali Bhar

Pousali Bhar is an English literature educator, researcher, and youth climate advocate from Chandannagar, West Bengal. Her work bridges environmental sustainability, civic participation, and community engagement through research-driven grassroots initiatives. As a Nāgrika Fellow (2025–26), she led the development of the Chandannagar City Vision Document, engaging residents to identify priorities for sustainable urban development. Passionate about empowering youth as agents of change, Pousali strives to combine academic research, policy advocacy, and public engagement to create practical, community-led climate solutions. She believes that resilient cities are built through informed and inclusive participation, and she works to make climate action both locally relevant and socially impactful.

Addressing the waste crisis during the Jagaddhatri Puja festival in Chandannagar with her NYCC Project - Bisorjon: Sustainable Festive Cities, Pousali plans to partner with the Municipal Corporation and local vendors to transition from plastic to compostable materials, establish free water refill stations, and consolidate this into a lasting civic policy memo. She wants to get young people involved in making festivals more sustainable, build lasting partnerships with local institutions, and create a model for climate-resilient urban celebrations that can inspire policy change and community-led environmental action.
