In 2019, Akhilesh founded Bring Back Green Foundation with a definitive vision: to empower young leaders to drive impactful change toward a sustainable future. Grounded in the belief that youth possess the essential agency to solve a crisis they did not create, his work has earned him recognition as a UN India honoured Youth Climate Leader. Akhilesh brings extensive experience engaging with multiple international agencies in various strategic capacities, where he consistently champions youth-led climate agendas. By collaborating with global stakeholders, he works tirelessly to amplify the voices of the next generation and integrate their perspectives into the forefront of international climate action.
A central figure in institutionalizing youth advocacy, he has been a primary force behind the design and development of the National Youth Climate Consortium (NYCC) model. This framework was synthesised from his foundational work with the BBGF and a deep reservoir of personal experience, combined with critical reflections on the specific needs of young people in India. By merging international learnings with localised insights, he helped develop the NYCC as a tailored response to the Indian context. Through his leadership, Akhilesh continues to transform these reflections into tangible platforms that enable young leaders to navigate and lead in a rapidly changing environmental landscape.
